One more time...

I think this will be my last 10 minute sketch photos that  I share with you all for awhile.  I  have really enjoyed these exercises and do see the value in them, but, for the next couple of oils I'm going to work on something besides these exercises.

The top two apples were painted yesterday and this morning I did the last two.  I toned the square in #4  and found I enjoyed seeing the orange some through the paint in different areas.  Also, I think this exercise turned out the best ... even it I did have to cheat and add a minute or so.  I think my green values could have been a little closer to each other than I was able to mix this time.
I found time today to mix some green color charts.  I have it all written down as to how I mixed these and when the oils dry I'll write the color combinations on the canvas.

  1. Nancy, I think these apples are great. I am so impressed with your color charts . . . these exercises take such discipline, but are well worth it in the long run. :)

  2. Wow! You have been working hard at oil painting! I am embarrassed to say that for all of the oil painting I have done lately, I have only a scraped, stained canvas to show for it. Your greens are beautiful!! Reminds me of my box of Terry Ludwig green pastels. 90 of them! I hope you'll continue to show your exercises. They are delightful!

  3. Your apples are wonderful. I admire your disciple to really learn how to paint right, to do the work it takes! I made color charts years ago, probably a good exercise for me to do. again.

  4. Thank you Joan, Katherine and Linda. The color charts were just for fun. I love mixing colors ... and greens... Yippee. The fact that there are so many greens and are so easy to mix, I was thrilled to do them. I'd probably do them every day if I could learn to paint in oils by mixing colors. Pretty soon you have to put brush to canvas and produce something other than a color chart though huh?. *grin.

  5. those are awesome greens! Your apple studies are very good--I like painting fruit and then eating it as my reward. lol. Orange "peeking" through anything is always pretty fun. :)
