Harmony on tide grid
This is a mono print I did of our sailboat up on the tide grid. I am pretty new to printing and now that its done I can see that I could have done some things differently to make it a better print ... remove more linoleum in some places, done a better job of coating the lino block with the ink, etc. Even with these mistakes I can still recognize it as our boat and that Harmony is on the tide grid. I have only done a couple of prints before and I find them mesmerising to work on. I became so engrossed with this one, trying to decide what to remove and what to leave behind. I may continue to work on this to see if I can't improve some of the lines of the hull.
This is really cool! I love linoleum prints and I like the way this one is reversed with the white being the lines. It reminds me of a ship in a bottle for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of that Jana... but you are right, a ship in a bottle. I wish I wouldn't have done it this reversed way now of coarse, but I still think I want to play around with it once more to see if it can be salvaged.
ReplyDeleteWow...I love linoleum prints too. I don't know if its the same for you, but the process totally outweighs the results in my experience. Most of the time I like to get things done, but when I've done printmaking in the past, I like the steps it takes to accomplish the mission.

The boat came out quite nicely. Good work! I've only done one of these type of prints, but it was so much fun to do.

I like the simplicity of this and the lines on the boat itself. Never tried doing this, but it seems like reverse painting in that your approach requires a different way of laying it out.
