The last of my bird series ...

Merganser - Nancy Van Blaricom Common Merganser: watercolor 5" x 5"

I think, for now, I'm done with my bird series. I find it hard to concentrate on painting the birds with my usual uptight detail painting style if I'm also wanting to paint more loosely.

I also have another painting started with the drawing down on the watercolor paper and some whites saved with masking fluid, but now I'm anxious to try to paint it looser than normal tendency's. Wish me luck.

  1. I love your bird paintings. I was thinking of making a hummingbird miniature series for my final work at school this year. I do love loose painting too. It is much more relaxing. Can't wait to see your new works.

  2. This gave me a start - I actually thought it was a photograph at first, and then I realized that it was much to beautiful to be a photograph!

  3. Thanks Meda. A hummingbird series would be beautiful. You should do that. Thanks for the thumbs up.

What a nice compliment Casey. Thank you.

Hey Shea... good idea! I just might try that. Might just make you all vote on which you prefer, wouldn't that be mean of me. *wink

  5. Thank you Fennymun, I've enjoyed painting this series. There was a time I couldn't think of what to paint when doing a series, now I can think of a lot of series I'd like to work on ... but for now, no more birds.

  11. Thanks Sharon, Cynthia and Kelly. Right now we are blessed to have so many birds around. There is some herring in the local water here and that brings one the sea lions and seals and birds of all kinds.
