watercolor (10" x 11" Unframed)
Just a little veggie painting to get us all in the mood for fresh juicy tomatoes from the garden. Yes, I know some say tomatoes are a fruit ... ok, so you go ahead and have a nice sliced tomato on your cheerio's.
After painting the tomatoes I felt the background would look best with some Gold Metal Leaf to set them off in a rustic yet elegant way. The gold foil added sparkle to an otherwise dark painting when the background was left a darker green that is seen at the edges of the foil.
Another great painting Nancy. What a wonderful idea you had with the foil. I'm writing that one down. However, I don't eat raw tomatoes, fruit or vegetable. Cooked ones yes but not raw. Paint some green beans for me.:-)
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS FANTASTIC, NANCY!!! I love the lusciousness of the tomoatoes -- you have my mouth watering!! I LOVE the bits of foil!!!!! BRAVA!
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful and fresh.
ReplyDeletelove it, love it, love it !!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Maeona. The foil wasn't really my idea. I attended a Judy Morris Workshop years ago, and she showed us how to do this in a still-life setting with some fruit. It is fun to work with something different.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lin.... so glad you are back.
Indiaartist, I guess it was time to do a little something to spice up my work ... bling always helps.
Thank you Carol Lee. I do notice in the painting that in framing it that I couldn't have done a better job of centering this... duh. Maybe a little cropping will help.
Yum. Definitely good enough to eat!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suzanne, wanna join me for a B.L.T. ?
ReplyDeleteOh Nancy awesome painting. Love the idea of the gold leaf. Hmm I will have to give it a try sometime.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful, Nancy - the tomatoes there's so much sensitivity in the tomatoes - and the gold leaf is an incredible touch! Hang this one in your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteThe rich red of the tomatoes is beautifully set off by the opulent gold leaf. Not easy to use something with such presence in such a completely successful and non-gimmicky way! Absolutely wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Toni. The gold leaf is fun to work with for paintings that would be blah if not used. Although I must admit I also like a really dark, dark background also. That seems to make an object "pop" also.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Casey. What about a whole series of veggie paintings for a kitchen with gold leaf????
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathryn. I never thought of it as "non-gimmicky " I almost thought the opposite... that I had to add a little (bling) to the tomato painting to give it a unique or quirky something that would make it "stand out". I like your thought better I think. Thank you!
ReplyDeletenice paintings, very precise!
ReplyDeleteOh! Just lovely in every way, Nancy!
ReplyDeleteBeing a lover of gold leaf in my art it really intrigues me the way it is presented.
The tomatoes are luscious and making my hungry for some fresh heirlooms this summer!
Beautiful.
Vicky
Thank you Helen J and Vicky for stopping by. It's cold here this afternoon and the idea of fresh tomatoes are on the back burner for now.
